In this
blog I am going to tell you about places to visit in Mylavaram. Mylavaram is a
village and a mandal in Kadapa district in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Places to Visit in Mylavaram:
Mylavaram Reservoir:
Mylavaram
dam is located in Mylavaram village in Kadapa district. It has a gross storage
capacity of 9.96 TMCs and the dam is built to provide irrigation to about 75000
acres. The construction of this reservoir was started in 1971. By the end of
1981-82, the construction of the distributary system and canals was completed. This
reservoir has two main canals. 25000 acres are being irrigated through one
canal and 50000 acres through another canal. Around 13 villages were submerged
during the construction of this dam. This dam has 13 gates as a symbol of those
13 cities. This reservoir is also known as Thathireddy Reservoir. You can watch
the amazing sunset here. AP Tourism has set up a boat club in the backwater of
Mylavaram reservoir to attract tourists. Tourists can participate in water
sports activities like speed boat, kayaking etc.
Mylavaram Museum:
After completion
of the reservoir in Mylavaram village, In 1976 an ancient museum was established
near the Mylavaram dam. At that time, the oldest architectural materials found
in the adjacent areas around Gandikota, which had an ancient history, were
preserved here. Small artefacts related to the 13 villages submerged in the
reservoir are also preserved here. Coins from the 12th century,
weapons from the 16th century, bricks used in the 3rd
century etc. are found here. Currently this building is in a dilapidated
condition. In the surrounding areas of the museum, one can see a complex of
sculptures in various forms.
Peer Gaibusha Vali Dargah:
This dargah
is at a distance of 6 km away from Mylavaram Dam. This dargah is built on a
hill, the views from the top of the hill are amazing. This place is very
peaceful and brings joy to the mind. Urusu festivals are celebrated grandly here,
on that time special buses are arranged to reach this place.
Gurappa Swamy Kona:
Gurappa
swamy kona is 8 km away from Mylavaram Dam. Devotees from the states of Andhra
Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka come to visit this Kshetra. Special pujas are
performed here every Monday, a festive atmosphere prevails here on that day. Near
to this temple you can visit Navagraha trees and a beautiful waterfall also
there is Gangamma temple, a function hall, a small park and rooms for devotees
to rest.
Agastheswara Swamy Kona:
Agastheswara
swamy kona is 10 km away from Mylavaram. Maha Shivarathri festival is
celebrated in this temple every year with great grandeur. Devotees come here
not only from this district but also from neighboring district for this
festival. Next to this temple you can see a waterfall and a small cave. Near to
this place you can also visit Athrimuni kona and Penna River view point.
How to Reach:
This reservoir is 8 km away from Jammalamadugu, 81 km away from Kadapa, and 17 km away from Gandikota. Direct buses and private vehicles are available from Jammalamadugu.
