In this blog I am going to tell you about Horsley Hills which is knowns as Andhra Ooty. Horsley Hills is 27 km away from Madanapalli town in Andhra Pradesh State. Pleasant climate and natural beauty are the special features here. The road to Horsley Hills is very beautiful. There are many trees like Eucalyptus on both sides of this path and it is very amazing. Tourists come here not only from Telegu states but also from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. There are many places to visit on the top of Horsley Hills, let us know about them one by one now.

Places to visit in Horsley Hills:

Gangotri Lake:

This Gangotri lake is 2 km away from Horsley Hills bus stop. This lake is surrounded by Eucalyptus Trees and is very beautiful. Wild animals like deer come to drink the water of this lake. This is a good place for taking photos.

Galibanda View Point:

It is one of the main places to visit in Horsley Hills. Here you can enjoy magnificent sunrise and sunset. The Horsley Hills are 4312 feet above the sea level so it is cool and pleasant here even in summer. Hence it is called as Andhra Ooty. The temperature here ranges from 3 degrees centigrade in winter to 32 degrees centigrade in hot summer. Tourists come here mostly for relief in summer. Especially in the months of April and May the tourist’s traffic be high.

Governor’s Bungalow:

Once this area was in Kadapa district, then a British officer named W.H. Horsley who was the Kadapa district collector used to visit this hill. The greenery and coolness here pleased him, so in 1863 he made it his summer retreat and built a bungalow here. Horsley used to hold all official works from here every summer and eventually the area came to be known as Horsley Hills.

Sri Yenugu Mallamma temple:

The earlier name of Horsley Hills was Yenugu Mallamma Hill [In English Yenugu means Elephant]. Earlier, a devotee named Mallamma used to do penance on this hill and tend cattle. An elephant used to bring fruits for her, so it is called the Elephant Mallamma Hill. Apart from that she used to take care of the tribal people here when they were affected by diseases. When she suddenly disappeared one day, the tribal people started worshiping her by building a temple here, believing her to be a goddess.

Zoo Park:

In Horsley Hills you can visit a small zoo park. In that Zoo Park you can see deer, rabbits, peacocks, ducks, crocodiles, fishes, pigeons and Emu birds. If you go a little further past the Crocodiles Pond here, you can see a Museum, Manasa Sarovaram Lake, and a view point. A small park built for children’s entertainment can also be visit here.

Old Eucalyptus Tree:

This Eucalyptus Tree was planted in 1859 by W.H Horsley. Its age is about 164 years and it also received the Maha Vriksha Puraskar award. Near this tree you can visit a forest bungalow and a beautiful view point.

Other Places:

You can also visit here Western view point, Whisper winds view point, Swimming pool, Fish spa, Ayurvedic massage centre, Museum, Manasa sarovaram lake and a Forest bungalow.

How to Reach:

Horsley Hills is 27 km away from the Madanapalli. There is also a bus service from Madanapalli in the morning and evening to reach here. Haritha resorts and private guest houses are available for accommodation here.
